Family Whistles

Something I didn't get from Mom was her ability to raise one eyebrow, a wonderful expression of skepticism. I wish I could do that almost as much as I wish I could purr.

When I was a kid my Mom would call the kids to the table, call us in from the yard, get our attention in a crowd, with the Family Whistle. A short melody that she could do at a decent volume and used to call in the pack, the tribe, the clan. I asked Mom last week where it came from and she said her mother used it too. I have shared it with my kids and though I've never been a strong whistler it still comes in handy trying to locate each other in a supermarket or a crowd.
The Tuttle Whistle

I have Googled Family Whistle and come up with nary an entry so it seems not to be particularly common. Which makes it all the more intriguing that Margy's family had one too. Geez it is a wonder our kids don't have extra toes.

The Frysinger Whistle

If your family had a whistle or call I'd be pleased to hear about it.

What a superstore ....

Today in the supermarket: (Click to enlarge)

"I really like the red one,
the yellow might be best.
Danny's got the green one
swears it's better than the rest.
What a great selection,
what a superstore,
I'm gonna buy a dozen
though I don't know what they're for."
